These instructions will help you get The Eagle installed and working with the Generic ADE (ASCII Data Exchange) interface. These instructions assume that the accounting system you are interfacing to already has the modifications required to communicate to The Eagle. The accounting system must have specialized “hooks” in place to accommodate ADE. Refer to the Real-time ADE Technical Specification for a description of exactly how the accounting system requests data, handles a request from The Eagle, and how it interprets the information sent back from The Eagle.
Before setting up the interface, please install and set up The Eagle. Setup instructions can be found in the main The Eagle Help file, which you access from The Eagle Program menu.
Interface Registration
If you have a demo version of The Eagle, select the Generic ADE interface by clicking on Setup/Accounting Interfaces/Select Interface from the main menu. Choose “Generic ADE” from the Accounting Interface Option list and click Ok.
If you do not have a demo, click Setup > Registration and make sure “Generic ADE” displays under Accounting I/F in the Options box. If not, call the Tanner Technology System sales department to receive the correct registration codes.
Set Up the Communication Path
From the main menu, click on Setup > Accounting Interfaces > Generic ADE. Set the Communication Path to a common directory to be accessed by The Eagle and the accounting system. Choose the type of trigger, Polling or Messaging; for more information, refer to the Real-time ADE Technical Specification. If Polling is selected, you can choose the interval between polls.
